Blaft is opening submissions for short fiction about women with weapons—any number of women wielding any number of weapons.

Submissions must be unpublished fiction between 1,000 and 8,000 words, and must fail the reverse Bechdel test, meaning it must feature not more than one man, or have the male characters not talk to each other, or have the male characters only talk about the women characters.

The call is open to writers around the world, but given that Blaft is based in Chennai, preference will be given to stories that will work best for an Indian audience.

Every accepted story will receive INR3,000 plus INR3 per word, and a little bonus if Blaft’s Kickstarter succeeds. Blaft is asking for world English print and electronic rights, exclusive for two years, and foreign language anthology rights.

Black-and-white graphic narratives of three to 16 pages will also be accepted, but will not make up the majority of the anthology. Payment will be INR1,000 per page.

Blaft is also interested in translations, even if you cannot complete the translation yourself.

Is is tragic that this needs to be spelled out these days, but Blaft will not accept anything made with AI.
