Mat Indera: Antara Identiti dan Ideologi

A follow-up to his 2012 Mat Indera: Petualang atau Pejuang, Muhaimin Sulam once again explores the life story of Mat Indera, whose showdown with the police in Bukit Kepong during the Malayan Emergency turned the guerilla fighter into a legend.

As with the first edition, a lot of the research into this book stemmed from the trial of Mohamad ‘Mat’ Sabu (then PAS leader, now Amanah president and agriculture minister) who disputed the official narrative of Mat Indera being a terrorist. That narrative was seared on the national consciousness via, among others, Jins Shamsuddin’s 1981 movie Bukit Kepong, a breakdown of which Muhaimin includes here, alongside interviews with Mat Indera’s relatives that give an insight into the man behind the myth.

Mat Indera: Antara Identiti dan Ideologi is available for purchase on the Gerakbudaya site.
