Majapahit

Monsoon Books, the London-based publisher with a focus on Asia, is releasing Herald van der Linde’s Majapahit: Intrigue, Betrayal and War in Indonesia’s Greatest Empire, which details the rise and fall of the mighty Javanese empire, among the most fearsome in the history of the region.

Van der Linde, author of 2020’s Jakarta: History of a Misunderstood City, goes beyond the palace intrigue to also illustrate the “melting pot of aristocratic Javanese, matted-haired Brahmins, hermits in bark cloth, widows dressed in white, and Chinese, Persian and Arab traders” in the kingdom, as well as its social diversity and artistic achievement.

Majapahit: Intrigue, Betrayal and War in Indonesia’s Greatest Empire is available for pre-order on the Monsoon Books site.
