Lee Su Kim, author of the Peranakan anthologies Kebaya Tales (); Sarong Secrets ( ); and Manek Mischiefs (), returns with Run, My Daughters, Run, published by Monsoon Books.

The novel is set against the Japanese Occupation of Malaya, and one family’s struggle to survive the brutal new reality–chiefly the bookish teenager Pei Lin, whose aspirations for education and independence are upended by the perils of war, and her strong-willed mother, Kim Neo.

According to Lee, Run, My Daughters, Run is inspired by the stories told to her by her own family and interviews she conducted with survivors of the Occupation.
