Bujang Valley

Bowen Liao delves into what the ancient site of Bujang Valley in Kedah represents in the national narrative in Bujang Valley: Heritage, Archaeology, and National Identity.

The book covers the documentation of the over-1,000-year-old site in Chinese, Indian, Arab and Malay historical and archaeological records, up to its partial demolition at the hands of a land developer in 2013—with the ruins of candi 11 dug up and cast aside in a pile of debris—amid its proposed designation as a Unesco world heritage site.
