Popular’s huge BookFest @ Malaysia returns for nine days at KLCC, in conjunction with the bookstore chain’s 100th anniversary. It will have more than 500 booths spanning 100,000 sq ft, featuring books of all genres in English, Chinese and Malay, alongside stationery, gifts, CDs and DVDs, gadgets and electronics.
The BookFest is split into two segments, exhibition and events. The first showcases the latest books from Malaysia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium and more. Halls 1 and 2 will feature Chinese books, while the English books will be in Halls 4 and 5.
The events, which include meet-and-greet sessions with authors—including When I Was a Kid cartoonist Cheeming Boey and Sang Kancil author James Chai—interactive workshops, cosplay and children’s competitions and more, will take place at the Main Stage @ Hall 1 and Hospitality Lounge 1. The first day of the event will also crown the winners of the Readers’ Choice Awards. Fiction nominees include Hanna Alkaf and Margaret Owen for The Grimoire of Grave Fates, Aishah Zainal for Hades, Amir Muhammad for The Big Book of Malaysian Horror Stories, Lilian Li for Duet Me Not, Tan Sue Lynn for Heart of the Sun Warrior, and Sreedhevi lyer for The Tiniest House of Time. For nonfiction, nominees include Joe Samad for Unequal Partners and Mark Trowell for Anwar Triumphs.
BookFest @ Malaysia is open from 10 am to 10 pm daily, with admission set at RM2.50 for one-time entry, and a nine-day pass available for RM10.
